Can I watch my child in class?
We have viewing windows outside of each studio. Parents are not allowed inside the studio with the exception of the First Steps class.
Why does my child need to wear a leotard and tights for dance class?
Leotard and tights help the instructor to see that each dancer's body is aligned properly. Any other clothing can inhibit proper movement to correctly achieve the required dance moves.
My child is not paying attention in class. What should I do?
Because of the young age of many of our students, we understand that attention spans can be short. Our instructors are experienced with this so please allow them to handle the situation. If your child becomes too much of a distraction to other students, the instructor will speak with you. Please do not interupt class to discipline your child.
Do I have to stay at the centre while my child is in class?
No. You may leave the building and return by the end of class to pick up your child. Please be prompt as we do not offer babysitting services.
Are we able to try a class before signing up?
Absolutely! We want to make sure that both you and your child are comfortable with your class choice.
What are the class sizes?
The class size depends on subject, age of the students and the studio in which the class is held. Assistants will be assigned to larger classses to ensure that your child is getting the attention that is needed.
How long are your sessions?
Our regular session runs on a school year from September until mid-June. Summer session begins in mid-June and runs for 10 weeks.
How can my child become a member of the Centre Stage Dancers?
A student that has been trained in tap, ballet and jazz may audition for our dance company. Auditions are announced each year. Students may also be recommended by their instructor.
What should my child wear to class?
Each class has required attire and shoes. Please go to the correct class on our website to find the appropriate attire requirements.
Can I switch my child to a different class?
Yes. You may switch to a different class if there is room in the class and it is the correct level for your child. There is no cost to switch classes. Tuition will be adjusted accordingly.
What happens if I need to withdraw my child from a class?
If the student is enrolled in multiple classes and you are only dropping some of their classes, you just need to inform the office so that we can make the necessary changes to your account. If you are withdrawing completely from our program you will need to give us a 30 day notice and fill out a withdrawal form.
Does my child need to be potty trained to participate in class?
No, however, Pull-Ups or another brand of training pants must be used. Also, a parent or guardian must remain in the building at all times to attend to the needs of any non-potty trained children.
I have concerns about my child's progress. Can I speak to the instructor about this?
Absolutely! We encourage dialogue when you have any concerns with our centre. Please stop by the office to set up an appointment to speak with the instructor. Please DO NOT approach instructors before, during or after classes as they are busy with students. We will also be doing progress reports throughout the year so that you are aware of your child's progress.
If a class is full, can I be put on a wait list?
Yes. We will put you on the wait list and contact you if a space becomes available. Very often during the first few weeks of classes spots become available due to people moving into other classes.
How can I make sure my child is in the same class as his/her friends?
Your child can only be in the same class as their friend if they are at the same level and space is available.
Which level of tap, ballet and jazz should I register my child for?
If your child is a returning student, their instructor from the previous session will place your child. If you are new to our centre, we will place you by age and the instructor will evaluate your child to ensure that he/she has been placed into the proper level.
How do I register for class?
You may stop by the office to fill out a registration form.
When can I start classes?
You may start classes at any time as long as there is space available. A registration fee, first month's tuition and the last month of the season (1/2 month of June) are due when registering for class. If starting in the middle of a month we will pro-rate that month for you.
Why must my child take ballet to enroll in jazz class?
Ballet is the foundation for all dance and teaches a student the technique and discipline that is needed for jazz.
